Fight The Man by Voting For Him!

I'm not suggesting that punk rock is inherently liberal, left-leaning, or whatever ... maybe it is. Maybe its just the caricatured remains of the anarchist elements within the culture. No telling. But take one look at the site below and tell me how fast your head is spinning?

Yeah, fine, whatever. Matter of fact, I recall from sometime back (via William F.) that Christopher Buckley had a theory that punk AS SUCH was a conservative movement, reacting as it was to the peace/love/hippie Buddha-lite outlook immediately preceding the punk movement with the counterobservation that (among other things) pacificm can cause you to get beaten to a pulp by somebody who inconveniently IS NOT a pacifist... so punk would be a bit more assertive on that count.

But I don't see any direct connection between late 20th century pop music (call it postelectric folk, say) and any particular political outlook. And personally, I find Barry McGuire's "Eve Of Destruction" to be every bit as nihilistic as "Dust In The Wind" or moving forward, as "Negative Creep" or any of its rewrites 10 years after. Throw in "I've Never Been To Me" by whoever did that - it's just stylistic variation with the same message - like angry drunk VS sleepy drunk?

Anyway, I see punk as just anger - about WHAT would depend on the pet peeve of the songwriter.
